Do coins in your washing machine help remove stains from clothes?

Posted by on Tuesday, 6 December, 2011

I spilled red wine on a white top while over somebody’s house. They put it in the washing machine for me & when I went to take it out, I noticed change in the bottom of the washing machine and offered to take it out. But they informed me the copper in the coins helps to remove stains. The wine came out but I am wondering if it was really from the change or because I washed the top immediately.

Chosen Answer:

No money will not remove stains, it is because you probably washed it right away this is why the stains were removed.

What is the best coin cleaner for my coins?

Posted by on Monday, 5 December, 2011

I have various U.S. coins and would like to get all the dirt and grime off of them. Thanks for your answers!p.s I need something cheap

Chosen Answer:

You clean a coin and it loses it’s value real fast. There is no cheap coin cleaner anyway. Best bet leave them alone. It takes a pro to do it right and they know what coins can and can not be cleaned safely. I would hate to see you lose money on your coins, so it really is best to leave them alone.

How can I clean up some old coins I own?

Posted by on Friday, 2 December, 2011

I have some old coins that are really looking their ages. Back when I was in elementary school, they had taught us how to clean up pennies, but that’s been a while and I forgot. Help?
Thanks.

Chosen Answer:

Before you clean old coins, get them looked at by a dealer. Some coins lose value from getting cleaned.

Best way to sell old stamp & coin collections?

Posted by on Tuesday, 22 November, 2011

My father recently passed and I am now in possession of his rather substantial philatelic and numismatic collection. I am going to get these appraised soon, and perhaps that company can provide me with the answers I seek, but before I begin that process, what am I really getting into? I don’t have the time or knowledge to parse out the items, so I would be looking to unload them all to one or two collectors.

Chosen Answer:

You can find names of local coin dealers and coin clubs (whose members might become buyers) at the American Numismatic Association website money.org. Some coin collectors and dealers also have an interest in stamps although note that stamp collecting has been on a down hill trend for many years so demand has not been strong and values have been weak. Coin collecting has been just the opposite.

Confirm whether the appraisal is for wholesale values or retail values and get several buy quotes before selling. If the collections are fairly valuable consider a major auction house such as Heritage or Stacks.

Good luck.

How do you clean really old coins?

Posted by on Saturday, 19 November, 2011

My Dad has coins from the late 1800′s that we need to clean so we can read them.

Chosen Answer:

These coins can be very valuable. Do not clean them with a liquid. Use only a dry rag. When you bring them to a dealer for price value, they all want to see dirt. The call it “provenance”. We call it dirt. But in the old coin business, dirt = provenance = $. Leave the cleaning to the professional collectors.

What are ways to get coins on club nintendo?

Posted by on Friday, 18 November, 2011

I would really like to know if there are ways to get these coins without just putting game codes!!. I dont have a dsi all i have is a wii and wii games. Plus does this only work with nintendo branded games???
( For example can i use ubisoft pin number )
PLEASE AND LOTS OF INFO PLEASE best answer to first really good answer

Chosen Answer:

From my experience, you can only get “coins” from the code on games that were put out by Nintendo… so, the code from a “Ubisoft” game wouldn’t work.

You CAN get extra coins by answering all the little surveys that show up after you have entered in some codes. There are multiple surveys to answer for each game that you have entered. Just fill out each survey that comes up to get the most coins that you can.

As far as I know, that’s the only way to get coins right now…

Well… “Rafay” (or whatever your name is)… you are right about one thing. I DID type my answer BEFORE YOURS!!! That’s why you were able to copy it…

Value of a coin collection?

Posted by on Saturday, 12 November, 2011

I have a perfect condition set of 1970 coin in their box anyone know what its worth

Chosen Answer:

Proof or mint set?? Normal proof set is around , and normal mint set is around . The only thing it really has going for it is the last 40% silver Kennedy, which were only issued in these two sets, and not for general circulation. A proof set will be in a hard plastic holder and the coin will be highly reflective and/or frosted, while the mint set will look normal and will be in a cellophane wrapper.

Expanding coin collection?

Posted by on Saturday, 12 November, 2011

I’ve been collecting type sets from the late 1800′s to now, but I have several gaps I want to fill. Where should I go to buy them cheaply?

Chosen Answer:

You’ll be able to fill in those holes for less money on eBay than from most coin dealers in shops, at trade shows and in ads in coin magazines. You’ll see a lot of wholesale prices on eBay. But you’ll also see the really hard to find go for astronomic prices if two or more people happen to want the same piece at the same time.

You just have to be careful when buying on eBay. The reputable sellers offer money back if you’re not happy with what you get, except for certified/graded coins, which is self-explanatory.

How do I determine what my coin collection is worth?

Posted by on Wednesday, 9 November, 2011

Ever since I was a little girl, I have been collecting money. Bills & Coins from all over the world. I don’t really know if they are of any value but some of them are pretty old so I think some of them are worth money. I even have one dating back to the 18 hundred’s. I live in Vancouver, BC (Canada) and I am wondering if anyone knows if there is someone that I can contact that I can take my large collection to that can help me go through it and determine how much they are worth if anything at all because I’d like to sell them. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Chosen Answer:

There is no place on line. See if there is a coin club in your area for they would be glad to help. There are also coin dealers where you live so check them out. Remember not all coin dealers deal in coins of the world so you need to find one that does.
