Chosen Answer:

it would get one’s mind off oneself.

i know someone( who was troubled) who bought a couple of hamsters and made a huge hamster city with tubes and ramps and wheels, etc. it helped them take thier mind off of thier problems, and they came to have compassion for the cute little hamsters, learned some responsibility, and smiled alot more too :)

Coin Collection – current value?

Posted by on Wednesday, 30 November, 2011

I have a lot of old Australian coins ( pre decimal and decimal) which were given to me years ago by my grandfather.

Can anyone suggest a good book , or better still a good website, that can tell me the current value of old Australian coins? (taking into account their condition?)

I know there is a great book about this ( i saw it years ago) but i cant remember its name or author! DUH.

Chosen Answer:

http://www.krause.com/static/coins.htm – had some excellent publications out on world coins.

I use

http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/default.asp

to identify my coins. There are many other collectors there. Some even specialize in world coins.

Good luck!

Here is a link to a coin next to a US penny. Do you know the face value, when and what it is?

by the looks of it, it ,ay have been a merchants coin of some kind, many old coins dating back as far as viking there have been holes in coins which were certain weight sizes and the hole is so a string or chain of some kind could be threaded through/ though thats just my interpretation i could very much be wrong. i know nothing about aisan coinage and the weird square hole in the coin puzzles me

its chinese as can be seen from the kanjis, though i cant find a value of the coin. had a little look although the square hole is there and was often used to string onto a rope/string it is actually there as its used during the casting process. ps its quite unusual, the highest amount of characters on a coin, an official coin was four that i found. but this coin you show clearly has more on both sides.

coin collection values?

Posted by on Saturday, 26 November, 2011

I have a couple of coins that were given to me and i have no idea what they are worth i will do my best to describe in detail what they look like. If someone could please tell me what they are worth if i sold them that would be great.

1903 gold twenty dollar coin with a mint mark of an “s”
A 1 ounce gold liberty coin ( it does not have a date on the front it says mcmlxxxvi on the front)

2 more gold liberty coins 1/4 of an ounce with the same lettering on the front

another gold liberty coin that is a 1/2 ounce same lettering on front

1 more gold liberty coin1/10 of an ounce once again same lettering

a 1907 gold ( looks like this in the front http://www.cointalk.com/attachments/36559d1229171860-gold-1907-obverse.jpg) and it says united states of america Ten. d on the back with a eagle

1903 gold coin mint marked s(http://www.coinstudy.com/image-files/liberty-twenty-dollar-gold-coin-values-top.gif)

And last but not least a 1900 one dollar coin with no mint mark

Thanks in advance…

Chosen Answer:

Condition is everything when it comes to coins. Without that information, all I can give you are ballpark figures for them. Which is basically the value of the gold, plus a small premium. Gold touched 50 an ounce today, but at eBay, people are paying a little more than that for bullion coins. Coins with no added collector value are bullion coins. Yours may have added collector value or they may not.

1903 S Liberty Double Eagle – 50
1903 Liberty Double Eagle – 50
1907 Liberty Eagle – 0

The other gold coins are from the current American Eagle Series, and they DO have dates: 1986, in Roman numerals.

Eagle – 00
Half Eagle – 0
Quarter Eagle – 0 X 2 = 0
One Tenth Eagle – 5

The silver dollar is worth a minimum .

You’ve got at least 00 in gold there, if all of the coins are genuine. There are a lot of counterfeits out there. It’s best to a have a coin dealer in your area, one with an excellent reputation for honesty, to look at them. If they are in high grade condition, you won’t be adding a lot of value to the 1986 coins, but the older ones could be worth as much as several thousand more.

Since there are only 10,000 of this particular item minted, I have a hard time believing you would find it anywhere but online. You might go and ask though.
